Faceup Commissions

1. About me and my studio

Welcome!

I am Ms. Stein, Bachelor of Fine Arts. Art has consistently been a big part of my life, drawing, painting, sculpting or general crafting is my passion and livelihood. Sharing my skills with people by painting their dolls makes me very happy and fulfilled.

My studio is based in Poland (EU) and I have been involved in the ball-jointed-doll world since late 2009 and I love it more and more with each day. I have been painting dolls since 2012.

The atmosphere of my faceups is ethereal, so my colour palette can embody both bright and happy, as well as dark and melancholic.  My painting style is gentle and semi-realistic and I love bringing the doll’s character to life with feathery eyebrows and eyelashes, moles and freckles. I have been a professional artist now for over a decade, however, you should like my style, as presented in my portfolio, before you request a faceup.  All faceups are done by hand in my home studio with care and a high attention to detail. Bear in mind that perfect symmetry doesn't exist, so don't expect my faceups to be like this. Although you can expect high quality and a professional attitude throughout.

To do my faceups I use an airbrush and the best art grade materials.

If you want a great quality faceup, then my services are for you. However, before requesting a faceup from me, please take a moment to read my terms and conditions.

Claiming not to know the rules does not justify not following them.

2. Before you apply for a commission

These are the most important conditions you must fulfill. It will help us to bring your faceup ideas to life and avoid any misunderstanding.

To be accepted for a commission you have to:

- Have your commission ready to ship

- Fill in a Faceup request form and send it via e-mail

- Be able to send your commission within 7 business days, after you have received a confirmation email

- Be patient and communicative.

In the event that you have ordered a doll, but will not be able to send it to me within 7 business days, please do not apply for a faceup, do it later. I no longer offer the option for you to send a commission to me directly from the manufacturer. This is to allow you to see the quality of the doll itself, i.e. damage, resin colour, before sending it on to me for a commission.

If you have your doll with you, but are unable to send it within 7 business days, I'll ask you for a non-refundable deposit. If you will not be willing to pay a deposit, then the slot will be cancelled.

Please take into consideration that once you have applied for a commission and sent your doll to my workshop you will be unable to cancel, unless you pay a charge, which will be the full cost of the requested service. I advise that you do not apply if you are either impatient or undecided as to if you want a commission. I wish to avoid any situation where a customer wishes to cancel their request.

Counterfeit and recast doll WARNING:

Remember, that I absolutely do NOT work with counterfeit/recasted dolls. I am pro- artist and I do not support thieves in any way. If you decide to risk sending me a counterfeit/recast doll, and I WILL identify it as such, I will charge you for the return shipping. Your counterfeit/recast will then be sent back without any service on it. You will also be excluded from any future service.

I maintain the right to:

- ask at any time for proof of legitimacy of your doll (CoA)

- if your behavior during the commission process is unprofessional/rude/disrespectful or clearly not in line with the rules I maintain the right to stop your commission, charge you the full service price and return the head without any possibility of a future commission.

- refuse to serve you without providing a reason

- ask you for payment beforehand

If you can meet these conditions, feel free to apply for a commission!

Disclaimer

Before requesting a body blush, make sure you understand that this kind of service requires you to be especially careful when handling your doll. Please be careful when moving joints, and use gloves when touching your doll. Doll clothes can also leave stains on a body blush if left for too long. Check your doll's clothes to make sure they are safe. In case of any damage, you can apply for fixing the body blush. Any fixing is not free of charge, and the price depends on the complexity and size of the damaged area.

I'm not responsible for any damage caused if you have handled your doll incorrectly.

Water can damage my faceups or blush, therefore do not use water to clean or wet them!

-“Which form should I choose?”

My colour palette is a mix between warm and cold tones. I can make your faceup closer to your preferences, but do not expect me to stick to it 100%, as the tones I use are one of the aspects that define my painting style. If you are not sure which form you should fill in, please check the short description below of what each type of faceup includes. If you  have any problems with the forms, feel free to ask me for help!

A BASIC FACEUP includes: natural blush, freckles, moles, eyebrows, eyelashes, veins, skin texture, eyeliner, eyeshadow, coloured lips, gloss, shimmer. The colour palette for a natural faceup includes nude, warm and cold tones. You can choose either nude or go for a glamour makeup look. Or a combination of the two!

 Examples:

An ADVANCED FACEUP includes any elements from a basic faceup, but also with additional elements such as attached pearls, gems, flowers, facial hair, tattoos, patterns, fantasy blush, scars, bruises, blood and any creative ideas. The palette for an advanced faceup is the broadest and allows you the most creative flexibility.

 Examples:

Finally, the ARTIST CHOICE Faceup form you can choose when you don't have any ideas for a faceup or just want to give me artistic freedom to paint your doll according to my own tastes or mood.
However, you will not recieve any work in progress photos just a ready doll, and will not be able to ask for any adjustements. You will have a limit of three key words you can use to describe the faceup you want; for example glitter, rainbow, happy. These 3 words are optional and you don't need to write anything if you don't want to. Please choose this option only if you are a fan of my faceups and want my artistic work, not to bring your idea to life. Prices may vary depending on how much effort I will put into a project.
If you are not happy with the result, unfortunately I will not change or remove anything, or refund you. This is just a one way ticket, so you will need to pay for the full faceup anyway.

4. Painting process, photos, waiting time

a). Forms, faceup details

Sending a faceup form and providing details are very important in bringing your idea to life, so please bear this in mind. Make sure you provide me with at least one reference photo, by this I mean any inspirations such as  human or fashion makeups, drawings, tattoo sketches or patterns, colour palette etc. Anything you add will be very helpful. Remember to add a description to any attached photo. Disclaimer: Dust and some imperfections can occur but I always aim to remove them to my best ability.

- Please avoid using another faceup artists work as a reference. My portfolio is big enough and you are more than welcome to use any of my previous work as an example.

- If you will not provide me with any or limited details, or your faceup description will be insufficient, I will assume you are giving me permission to choose and do what I feel will fit best to the mold.

- If you do not have any ideas for a faceup and just want to give me free reign, let me know or choose the Artist Choice faceup form.

b). Photos, updates:

- I will send the first set of proper photos when the light blush and eyebrow base shape is done. This means you will be able to ask for small adjustments to the eyebrow shape, but nothing complicated which may include removing deeper layers. I may also refuse to change something if it was not clearly specified in the form.

- You will then receive the second set of photos with all the details, and third/final set with gloss, eyelashes (if requested). So in total THREE sets of photos.

Example:
Commission 1 head, additional teeth.

FIRST SET-  one photo of the head with eyebrow shape to confirm
SECOND SET- one or two photos of the head before last sealing + one photo of teeth
THIRD SET- one or two final photo of finished head with parts + one final photo with wig (optional)

- You have the right to ask me for more photos. If you do not, then you will receive the standard amount of  photos. Remember to be communicative and check your emails regulary and respond ASAP to my emails. If you leave me without a response, I will move on with the faceup. Therefore you will not be able to ask for any adjustments.

- Do not use my photos without my written permission, especially the photos I send you during the painting process. You are free to repost any photos from my Instagram or Facebook portfolio, which is set for public view, but make sure I am tagged there and the signature is visible or the reposted photo has a link straight to my account/website.

c). Working time and contact:

- The waiting time starts from the moment I start painting your doll, NOT THE DAY YOUR DOLL ARRIVES TO ME. Sometimes, due to big commissions and their workload, it may take even longer, so patience is very appreciated. Be aware that waiting in the queue takes the most time, and may even take a few months, but once I start painting your doll it usually takes from 1-80 business days to finish your head (excluding delivery of art supplies, Christmas, Easter or unexpected personal affairs like illness, or family situations). Bodies may take up to 30-80 business days.

- Working days are from Monday to Friday.

- I am happy to answer your questions about how to apply or the rules on any social media, but if your commission form has been accepted and your doll is in progress then please contact me via e-mail only. Messages sent via Facebook or Instagram with any adjustments might be ignored or forgotten, because I receive a lot of messages via social media, so I would really appreciate if you could email me instead, as they won't be missed!

- In the case of any delay, you will be able to see updates via my Instagram Story or Facebook page. I truly recommend to follow me, especially on Instagram, as you might be able to see some “behind the scenes” progress. However, any Instagram stories or Facebook posts are NOT part or the commission update. I can show your doll, but I don’t have to. Asking me for a picture will not make me upload one quicker. Therefore, please avoid pressuring me for updates, I will contact you when I'm ready! Pressure doesn't help, it just creates a stressful and unpleasant environment for my work and our client-professional relationship. I also recommend to join my broadcast channel on Instagram to follow the painting queue.

- If you are not happy with the faceup, I can remove it and start from scratch if you request it, or I can remove the faceup and send the blank head to you, but you will still be charged for materials used, so  £80 + standard price for the next faceup if you choose to start over. This option is only available if you do not approve the second set of photos. Any complicated removals or adjustments on finished faceups will be charged an additional standard fee.

5. Payment

- I accept payment via PayPal only and in GBP

- For customers in the UK or POLAND I offer payment via online bank transfer if requested.

- I add PP fees to total summary as well as custom charges if there are any.

- Payment must be made upfront, after I receive the head and before I start your commission. I will send you the summary at this time. Once I finish your commission, I will send you a quote for the shipping separately.

- My faceups are non-refundable. I can offer repairs for an extra charge, only if the faceup was done by me and if the damage is not too great. I do not repair other artists’ faceups!

- I will not ship your doll until I receive payment, therefore please do not delay payment.

- Please do not ask me to convert or change to another currency. If you want to know how much it will be in another currency, then you can use PayPal converter or Google to check. Remember that prices may be slightly different depending on if the head will need any additional service.

6. Packing and Shipping

How should you prepare your doll before sending it for a commission?

If you are accepted for a commission, please remember to pack your doll safely. Use a box instead of an envelope, as this is much safer and will reduce any potential damage during transport. If you put bubble wrap inside, make sure it is not too tight, as this may cause problems with packing a doll with eyelashes.

Add to your parcel:

- face protector

- wig (optional)

- eyelashes (optional)

Please do not send eyes. I will not use them. Do not send CoA's, just sent me photo of it if I request it.

The face protector is the most important; especially if you want me to stick on a pair of eyelashes. I can provide you a replacement for the face protector, but my stock is limited so if you have one, send it with the doll. If you decide not to send this and I won’t have anything in stock, then your eyelashes may lose their shape or fall off during transit. I do not take any responsibility for this. The wig is up to you, but I would really appreciate if you include it.

When you send your parcel you MUST provide me with a tracking number!

IMPORTANT!

1. Do not send me faceplates only. Pack the WHOLE head with the headcap! It's easier for me to secure your head with faceup when the head is full and round and not just flat without a headcap:(

2. Please avoid adding any food to your parcel, expecially if you're outside the EU, as this will cause a lot of problems!
Remember, that food is very often on the list of prohibited items. Please check it before shipping!

For EU countries, if you still want to include something, please feel free to ship a teabag (from your contry) for me to try it <3

Shipping information:

 Options I offer:

DHL (insurance available)

UPS (insurance available)

FEDEX (insurance available)

GLOBAL EXPRESS (no insurance)

INPOST

I will ship the parcels within a few days, after receiving your payment. All the parcels are always tracked. Bear in mind that I won’t send your doll via second class, even if you require it.

The more expensive the insurance you choose, the more expensive the shipping will be.

I am happy to insure your doll or help you with a claim, but only for the actual value of the doll and as long as you have the documents to prove the value in case of any transit problems.

If you choose to insure your doll, you have the right to open your parcel with the courier present and claim your money.

If requested, I can mark the value down or mark the parcel as a gift, but this is done at your own risk. This information must be clearly selected in the form.

Make sure you fill in the VALUE section of the form. Don’t leave it empty.

I always make sure that the doll is packed safely, but I am not responsible for any damages, delays or loss during transit or unsuccessful claims. Shipping is absolutely NON- REFUNDABLE. If you are not happy with the shipping service your only option is to claim from the transport company you chose, not me.

CUSTOM CHARGES

If you are from outside the EU and your parcel will be charged any custom fees, these charges are added to your service summary. I would advise to write a lower amount on your parcel, ideally between $10-100, but this is of course up to you and I will respect your choice.

7. Faceup Request Forms

A faceup form must be completely filled in and you cannot leave anything blank, edit or change the document. If the form will be incorrectly filled, or the descriptions provided will be insufficient, then the request will not be accepted.
The forms have three main points: General Details, General Commission Detail and Faceup Details; all of them are extremely important.

If you want to send me more than one head you will have to fill in separate forms for each head.

1. General Details is about the owner's details, and shipping preferences.

- All the shipping information and your details must be clear. If you want your doll to be insured, write down the amount you wish to insure in GBP.

2. General Commission Detail includes information about the condition of the doll head you want to send.

- The doll's gender is quite important to me. I don't know all the models and this is important so as to avoid any misunderstanding. For example, if your doll is a female model, but you want it to be a male character, then definitely let me know! Otherwise I may do a typical female faceup instead of a male one.The same applies for androgynous dolls. Let me know!

- In case you don't have a DoA or Instagram account you can provide any other links to other social media platforms where you are active i.e. Flickr, Facebook Fanpage of your doll, blog etc.

- You absolutely must include where you got your doll from (company site or dealer). Please provide me with a photo of the certificate of authenticity of the head/doll you want to send, with your name and the date the photo was taken. It can be written separately on a piece of paper and put next to the certificate. The photo must be clear. If you bought your doll second hand, and cannot attach a photo of COA you will need to provide details, like an Instagram account or DoA nickname etc, of the previous owner. Any data you give me will not be used or shared. I only need it to verify the legitimacy of your doll.

If your doll was modded or dyed and has apoxie, please send pictures of it with the form. I will not be able to tell you without seeing the pictures if it is something I can work with.

3.Faceup Detail is about the service you want me to do.

Sending your request does not mean that you have immediately got your slot. The slot is yours only if you have  received a confirmation email from me.

If you have any questions about the form, doll or anything else, feel free to ask me for an explanation!

Here you can find the Faceup Request Forms. Choose one, download it (or copy and paste), fill in and send via email to  stein0@wp.pl
